monitor audio studio loudspeakers

The Monitor Audio Studio loudspeakers join a small number of premium, high quality loudspeakers - past and present - that speaker manufacturers are choosing to release as a stand alone design, not belonging to a range. All of those that spring to mind have usually outperformed the same manufacturer's similarly priced models that do belong to a range, as the design brief for a "one off" loudspeaker has a single focus, unhindered by the needs of other models.

The design of the Monitor Audio Studio lends themselves well to traditional or contemporary spaces.

The grille-less design of the Monitor Audio Studio doesn't restrict the driver's intended dispersion, and allows for as clean a design as you could wish for. This leaves the 'stars of the show' on permanent display, but when a speaker looks this good, why would you want a grille?

absolute performance

The Monitor Audio Studio features technology from their flagship Platinum II series of loudspeakers, and actually has more in common with the £15,000 PL500s than any other model in the Platinum range due to its driver layout.

The driver layout is the underused vertical MTM (mid/treble/mid) of which I am personally quite fond of. This approach uses a mid/bass driver above and below the HF unit, which gives the impression that the higher frequencies are coming from the centre of the lower frequencies, which produces a more natural sound and a more consistent dispersion than the usual layout of the HF unit above a single mid/bass driver.

The bespoke Studio stands are a single slimline column design which can be filled to add ballast. The base plate is of a minimalist design, choosing four "arms" to sit on rather than a large imposing base plate. The stands are available with a grey column/black base, or all white to match the Studio colours.

Sandwiched between the dual 4" RDT II mid/bass drivers sits an MDP (micro pleated diaphragm) transducer, which rather than using a vibrating dome, works more like an accordion - an approach which is much more efficient at moving air due to its extremely low mass diaphragm, allowing the Studio to reach up to 60kHz from a two-way design.
