The Ophidian Mambo speakers are ideal for those looking for a well balanced sound, and would rather have a neater looking floorstanding speaker rather than bookshelf speakers and stands, as well as not being able to accommodate large floorstanding speakers that tend to need space to work well.
Standing less than 800mm tall, the Ophidian Mambo is one of the smallest full range floorstanding speakers available. Sitting on a small stable plinth, the cabinet is the same width as the Mojos at 142mm wide, but less shallow at 171mm deep.
Much of the magic is in it's crossover design and Aeroflex technology, which allows the Mambos to perform way beyond their size, which can only be appreciated in the flesh.
The Mambo is an ideal for those tight on space, but still want a quality floorstanding loudspeaker without the excessive bass response that many possess - the Mambo provides a well balanced response across the frequency range. The bass depth the Mambo can recreate from these is just astonishing, being able to reproduce bass down to 38Hz. They're certainly among the most insightful and capable floorstanding loudspeakers I've heard for their size.

The Mambo is a three-way design, and uses a 27mm Sonolex coated soft dome HF unit, dual long throw 90mm mid drivers, and two pairs of long throw bass drivers. The advantage of such a small mid/bass driver is its speed, producing tight bass lines with control that is more in line with high end loudspeakers. I've heard speakers costing thousands that can't match their pace and control, and both of those qualities ultimately affect clarity. Very few, if any, sub £2,000 floorstanding speakers can match their speed and agility, and even less are able to reproduce the subtle changes in the pitch or vibrato of bass notes.
Ophidian's Aeroflex technology is designed to do a similar job to a conventional loudspeaker port - produce extended bass from a small cabinet - but it does so without the side effects. Reflex ports usually produce a highly turbulent flow of air, which can produce port noise, and also drastically changes the bass depending on its proximity to the wall. Place your hand over an Aeroflex port and you'll hardly feel a thing. This allows the Mambo to be placed nearer to walls than is usual without all the negative issues, making it a very flexible little floorstander, and retaining the clarity of a three-way speaker. Floorstanding loudspeakers generally need space to work well, making the Mambo a stand out product in its category.
