Technics have been producing hi-fi turntables since 1970, with the SP10 - the world's first Direct Drive turntable. Despite being a domestic audio product, the model was quickly adopted by radio stations for broadcasting purposes. The original SL1200 appeared in 1972, and being more affordable than the SP10, became the preferred turntable for club DJs worldwide for its bombproof build quality and stellar reliability, as well as its speed control and lightning fast start-up times.
Relaunched in 2016, the 18kg SL1200G utilises much of Technics' original tried and tested turntable technology, along with numerous improvements. Much of this technology has trickled down to the GR model, ensuring they will one day join the originals in hi-fi's hall of fame of all time classic hi-fi products.
