Audiolab's long history of producing simple, critically acclaimed audio amplifiers continues with their most comprehensive integrated amplifier to date - the new 9000a - 40 years after the original 8000a.

 

Regular features are still retained - such as multiple mode selection (integrated / pre / pre/power), a headphone socket, and onboard DAC now common to all Audiolab designs.

The most notable new feature is the 4.3" LCD screen which serves a number of purposes. As well as showing the usual information such as selected input and volume level as is common with many modern amplifiers, it will display a choice of retro 70s VU meters or retro 80s digital LED type meters. While this is purely aesthetic, the display also gives access to the amplifier's set-up menu, where various parameters such as individual input sensitivity, upsampling frequency, standby settings, as well as balance control. this display can be dimmed or fully turned off.

For analogue sources, the 9000a provides for three line level RCA inputs, a turntable input catering for Moving Magnet cartridges, and a pair of RCA inputs to allow the 9000a to be used as a power amplifier, or as a home theatre bypass for integrating into a home theatre system. A pair of balanced XLR inputs opens up the flexibility a little more.

On the digital side, a pair of optical and a pair of coaxial inputs cover up to 24bit/192kHz, and a Type B USB input covers up to 32bit/768kHz and DSD512. A Type A USB connection is included for software updates as the 9000A isn't a network product.

The Sabre ESS9038Pro DAC will fully unfold and decode MQA encoded material.

​

Wireless streaming from phones and tablets is possible by Type 5 Bluetooth, catering for aptX HD and LDAC formats.

The 9000cdt Compact Disc transport perfectly complements the 9000a amplifier, using the same physical form, layout, and display. The 9000cdt is purely digital, connecting to the 9000a via a single digital connection to utilise the high quality DAC in the amplifier.
