michell engineering

Like many turntable manufacturers, Michell started out as an engineering company. John Michell founded J. A. Michell Engineering in 1966, manufacturing bits and bobs for other companies. Also a scale model maker, John met Stanley Kubrick, and went on to build the spaceship Discovery which appeared in Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey - a design that went on to inspire countless sci-fi movies for decades to come, as well as the design for the iconic GyroDec in 1982.

John went on to produce parts for other Transcriptor turntables (as seen in Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orange), as well as movies such as Star Wars. John also invented the popular record clamp that is commonplace today.
