The Viking has been designed to produce the best possible quality from Compact Disc, and to that end, the Viking only plays compact discs - no SACD, no MQA, nothing that can detract from its single purpose.

​Control is extremely simple - the two dial looking buttons on the player that keep its look in line with Hegel's amplifiers act as push buttons - the left turns the player on and off and skips tracks backwards or forwards, and the right one controls stop and play, and also ejects the disc - all other functions are on the supplied remote.​
